Operation of one of the largest wind tunnels in the world on the joint border of Iran and Afghanistan
Deputy Minister and Head of SATBA announced the commencement of operation of one of the largest wind tunnels in the world on the joint border of Iran and Afghanistan.

SATBA Public Relations and International Affairs Office reported that Mohammad Satkin in an interview with Payam radio network said that one of the potential windiest areas in the world has been identified on the border between Iran and Afghanistan with a capacity of 30,000 megawatt. Around 25,000 megawatt is in the territory of Afghanistan and about 5000 megawatt is located in the territory of Iran.
The Head of SATBA also stated that the project of development and construction of wind power plants in this region has started which by the end of March 2021, 25 megawatt will be put into operation and another 25 megawatt will be connected to the grid at the beginning of Iranian New Year.
Satkin noted that the construction and operation of the mentioned 50-megawatt power plant have led to the development of infrastructures such as road construction, the construction of a high-voltage line, substation, telecommunications, and the Internet.
He welcomed other investors for the construction of new wind projects in the region and mentioned: "In addition to this project, another 50 MW project is being developed using 4.2 MW turbines, part of which will be completed by the end of Iranian year and another part will be implemented at the beginning of 1400.”
