In a video message to the 11th Assembly of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Minister of Energy pointed to the planned measures of Ministry of Energy regarding the transformation in the development of renewable energy and mentioned: “We hope that the cooperation of all countries and international decision-making bodies will lead to a synergy to deploy the use of renewable energy sources.”
According to the public relations and International Affairs Office of SATBA, Dr. Reza Ardakanian in a video message to the 11th Assembly of IRENA, expressed his hope regarding the results of the discussions and negotiations of the meeting to open up new horizons in the field of energy around the world. His Excellency stated: “The role and importance of energy in the international arena and the development of countries has increased more than before. One of the most crucial methods in the upcoming decades is the development of electricity use as an alternative to other energy carriers that would result in doubling the generation and consumption capacity of electricity.”
He considered that the supply of electricity from renewable and clean energy sources is one of the most important measures taken in the field of energy and added: “The world is witnessing a transformation in the energy sector, a transition from fossil-fuel-based systems towards renewables.”
The Minister of Energy pointed to renewable energy as an influential factor on the global economy and said: "Almost every country is able to harness renewable energy in its geographical area.”
Dr. Ardakanian mentioned that: “The main plan of Islamic Republic of Iran is the optimized use of fossil fuel sources and improving the operation of diverse renewable and clean energy sources to supply the partial country's energy mix demand by taking the following measures:
- Supporting the private sector through concluding guaranteed power purchase agreements with "incentive tariffs"
-Supporting equipment manufacturers with the aim of "transfer and localization of renewable energy technologies
-Supporting the research centers
-Providing access to sustainable electricity in remote areas and villages
- Implementing policies to export renewable electricity from Iran to other countries.”
“According to the plans made, we have witnessed the operation of about 850 megawatt renewable and clean energy power plants. All these power plants have been developed by 160 private sector companies in the majority regions of Iran. Furthermore, 260 megawatt renewable capacity is under construction. These capacities along with Iran’s expert force and industrial potentials have created 31000 direct and indirect jobs until now.” His Excellency added.
Dr. Ardakanian considered the meeting of the representatives of different countries in the General Assembly of IRENA an opportunity to exchange political, economic, scientific and technical issues related to energy and mentioned: “Undoubtedly, IRENA provides a great platform for further cooperation between member countries on "education, transfer of experience and technical know-how in the field of renewable energy.”
His Excellency thanked the organizers of the assembly and expressed his hope that the cooperation of all countries and international decision-making bodies will lead to a synergy to deploy the use of renewable energy sources more than before.
The report adds that the International Renewable Energy Agency has officially started its activities in 2011 with the aim of supporting countries in a transition to sustainable energy future, and currently is has 184 member countries. The Islamic Republic of Iran became a full member of the Agency in 2012 with the proposal of the Ministry of Energy and the approval of the Cabinet and subsequently the approval of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and has been actively participated the meetings.
