According to SATBA Public Relations and International Affairs Office, During the IRENA Council virtual meetings on 3 and 4 November 2020, Dr. Satkin, Deputy Minister of Energy and Head of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), delivered his speech in the council meeting with more than 361 participants from 103 countries and the European Union.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Satkin expressed his appreciation of IRENA for its effective work during these unprecedented times and mentioned that: “Iran has been supporting the private sector in the development of renewable energy through feed-in-tariff system. Setting attractive tariffs and twenty–year long contracts can be named as incentives for the encouragement of private sector. The main plan of Islamic Republic of Iran is the optimized use of fossil fuel sources and improving the operation of diverse renewable and clean energy sources to supply partial country's energy mix demand.”
“With the aim of increasing the participation of local and foreign private sector investors in order to generate electricity from renewable sources, we have introduced Renewable Electricity Exports law, which supports and encourages the export of electricity to the neighboring countries of Iran. We believe this could be a great opportunity for foreign investors, as most of neighboring countries of Iran have the lowest access to electricity.” He added.
He also thanked IRENA and expressed SATBA’s support regarding the Climate Investment Platform (CIP) and requested for the practical and executive procedures.
“As the pandemic has had negative impacts on the economies of most countries around the world, we suggest IRENA to continue its study on the impacts that are caused by COVID-19 in different countries, both developed and developing and to provide specific solutions in this regard.” He mentioned.
He also suggested IRENA to put more emphasis on the education in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency, and stated that IRENA can act as a knowledge hub by holding virtual training workshops to transfer technical, policy and financial knowledge.
