At the same time with President Rouhani's visit to East Azarbaijan, 50-MW wind farm in Aghkand district located in Mianeh City was launched by the Minister of Energy, Dr. Ardakanian after President Rouhani ordered its opening via video conference.
According to the report, Aghkand wind power plant, which was constructed by MAPNA Company using localized technology, has created more direct and indirect jobs for 209 and 500 people at the time of construction and operation respectively. It has also led to the region's economic growth and prosperity with the share of native employees accounting for 49% of total employment.
The construction of the 63.20 kilovolt wind farm's substation as a complement to the project and project machinery needs from the region have provided a good opportunity for employment.
According to the report, with the launch of this large-scale project in addition to providing reliable electricity to more than 43000 subscribers in the home sector, it prevents the release of 83590 tons of greenhouse gas emissions which is one of the project's environmental gains. It is worth mentioning that the Aghkand wind power plant will prevent the consumption of more than 36 million cubic meters of fossil fuel per year by injecting more than 129 gigawatt hour of electricity into the national electricity grid, which will reduce annual water consumption by 28512 cubic meters.
According to the report, the installed capacity of renewable power plants in Iran is 782 megawatt, with wind power plants accounting for about 39% of our electricity demand. This capacity consists of 20 wind power plants in 9 provinces (Ardabil, Isfahan, East Azarbaijan, Khorasan Razavi, Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Fars, Qazvin and Gilan provinces) with a total capacity of more than 302 megawatt that about 17% of which belongs to East Azarbaijan province with 3 wind power plants in Aghkand, Sarab and Tabriz regions.
