The first Iran’s geothermal Atlas is prepared by the experts of Energy Potential and Resource Assessment Office and will be available to experts of this field.
According to the Public Relations Office of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), in order to provide the identification of the areas with geothermal potential, Energy Potential and Resource Assessment Office has completed and prepared the first geothermal Atlas of Iran based on the common standards and up-to-date knowledge of the world, and will be unveiled at a public meeting.
Dr. Satkin, Director General of Energy Potential and Resource Assessment Office said that "The Atlas is currently prepared based on geological studies, drilling and reservoir engineering in 15 provinces of the country. The reports are backed up and will be made available to experts in this filed on SATBA website. The names of provinces are as follows: Ardabil, East Azarbaijan West Azarbaijan, Gilan, Fars, Mazandaran, North Khorasan, Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, Markazi, Isfahan and Qazvin.
Dr. Satkin added "Iran has a significant potential in the field of geothermal energy and there is more than 400 megawatts potential to generate power from geothermal source only in Sabalan's northwest field." Dr. Satkin expressed his hope and stated that by introducing high potential areas, an effective step would be taken to attract investors in this sector.
