According to SATBA’s public relations and international affairs, Mapna’s renewable energy company which is constructing the 50 MW wind farm with an investment volume more than 70 million euros in the deprived region of the East Azarbaijan province (Aqhkand village). This company connected the first installed turbines on the wind farm to the national electricity grid. According to the report received from the executive of the project, at present out of 20 wind turbine units each (with the capacity of 2.5 MW), 12 units installed and expected to reach full operation by the end of March 2019. The report adds the mentioned wind power plant with an annual electricity generation of 175,200,000 kWh will have the capacity to supply electricity to 104,000 households. It also saves fuel consumption (49 million cubic meters of natural gas) and 38 thousand cubic meters of water and will prevent the release of 119,200 tons of environmental pollutants.
