Deputy Minister of Energy and the head of the SATBA in the opening ceremony of Iran’s 3rd International Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition (Iran REC 2018) gave his speech on the incentive plans and policies of the renewable energy development in Iran, with recent announcements by the Ministry of Energy entitled “the decree of determining the conditions for exporting renewable and clean electricity abroad” and “the decree of the localization support for renewable energy technology along with the ongoing guaranteed power purchase process. He pointed out that the notable capacity of the electricity generation power plants in Iran was only to meet a demand of about 300 hrs/year that supply of this capacity needs spending considerable money.
Meanwhile, the obtained results from operating renewable power plants (wind and solar) show that about 80% of electricity generation of these power plants were in peak demand of the country’s electricity consumption and, therefore, a suitable alternative to address the demands at the electricity consumption peak hours. Also, the electricity generation costs reduction of the renewable power plants and, on the other hand, the climatic conditions in term of the great potential of the renewable power plants construction in Iran and, due to the shortage of water resources are among the issues that make the renewable energy development more crucial than before.
In response to the private investor’s questions regarding the decision to announce the guaranteed power purchase tariffs, the Ministry of Energy will make a decision to support them once the exchange rate has been stabilized.
