Dr. Ardakanian, Minister of Energy at Iran’s 3rd International Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition (Iran REC 2018): By the beginning of summer 2019, a capacity of 500 MW will be added to the country's renewable energy power plants. Based on SATBA’s public relations and international affairs office, Dr. Ardakanian attended the Iran REC 2018 on 9th October 2018 at the in IRIB Conference Center in Tehran. The aim of IRAN REC 2018 was using the capacities and capabilities of the local and foreign companies in order to develop renewable energy and observe the challenges and obstacles in this field. He mentioned the macro policies and plans of the Ministry of Energy in the field of renewable energy, pointing out that in recent years with the ever-increasing demand for energy and reduced costs of electricity generation from renewable energy sources, the tendency towards these clean sources has found a special place in the macro energy policies of the most countries in the world.
He added that Iran has a great potential for renewable energy development. In line with the Iran Ministry of Energy’s encouraging policies and support from private sector investors, the capacity of renewable power plants has reached 650 MW by the end of September 2018. It is worth mentioning that 2000 roof-top solar power plants have also been operational and 500 MW of the new power plants will be added to the renewable capacity of the country by the beginning of the summer of 2019.
He added that strategic plans of the Ministry of Energy to utilize the best deployment of fossil fuels to generate electricity, improve energy efficiency in the country’s energy cycle, and taking notice to an increase the deployment of renewable energy sources based on the ministry’s mandate to achieve 5000 MW of the renewable energy power plant by the end of the 6th development plan of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Further, referring to the recent announcements by the Ministry of Energy entitled “Exporting electricity and supporting the domestic production of renewable energy equipment”, these important measures are a key point in improving domestic production capacity, as well as a good opportunity to use the country’s potential for electricity exports renewable through private sector investment in neighboring countries of Iran, which will result in the job creation, the development of local technical capacity and increase of Iran economic revenues.
